Episode 3: The Catholic School World
Your Destination Catholic School – Mount Saint Mary’s.
Mt. St. Mary Academy, the educational ministry of St. Patrick Parish, was established in 1859. Their mission is to serve families primarily of the Catholic Communities of St. Patrick, St. Canice and St. Dominic as well as families of other faith traditions and surrounding communities. Recognizing that parents are the primary educators of their children, St. Mary’s collaborates to educate their students to achieve their potential in the areas of faith development, academic excellence, social awareness and emotional growth. They exist to inspire and motivate students to recognize their call to be responsible, faith-filled leaders in the reality of today’s multicultural and diverse world.
Kellen: Hello everyone and welcome to another episode of Striking Gold in the Local World. I'm your host, Kellen Lake, and today I'm joined with Edee Wood, the principal of Mount St Mary's Academy right here in Grass Valley, California. Thanks for doing this with us.
Edee: Thank you, Kellen. Welcome home.
Kellen: Thank you. If you don't know I went here from pre-k through 8th grade and it was a great experience. Tell us a little bit about Mount St Mary's.
Edee: Well, Mount St Mary's is the oldest operating Catholic School West of the Mississippi. It was started in 1859 by The Sisters of Mercy and we've been here ever since.
Kellen: What is something that you appreciate about Nevada County in particular?
Edee: I think the most important part of Nevada County is the community. I think we have a very special Community; not just the people who live in Nevada County but also the businesses in Nevada County. I think that's something that's very unique and special about our community is that, you know, we take care of each other.
Kellen: This area of California is known to be where the Gold Rush started. What is something that you really treasure in taking care of the local community and students here?
Edee: I think that because we have such a rich history and we've been in existence for so long that it's kind of like we with the community work hand in hand. They give so much to our community and then we in turn are able to to give back as well.
Kellen: That's awesome. Well I really appreciate you doing this interview with me. Mount St Mary's has always been a part of my life and I hope someday that I can just keep contributing to it. As always check out my YouTube channel My Real Estate World. Thank you everybody, we'll see you next time.
